Academic staff – have you sent us your Reading Lists?

    1 August 2009

    books

6 weeks from now, our students will be back and ready to read. A common complaint is that the Library does not have the books you’ve recommended, or does not have enough copies.

Send us your Reading Lists now and we still have time to buy any new books needed before semester starts.

Send your Reading Lists to Eve Dick; contact Eve with any questions about ordering books or other material for the Library.

Interested in improving student access to key texts?

E-books can be accessed 24/7, on and off-campus. We already have over 200 e-books; we can find out availability and cost of e-versions of your recommended texts and help you decide whether we should buy them for our growing collection.

You can upload digital copies of essential chapters/articles into your Vision modules – check out our Scanning Service or contact us for more details.

    Finders Keepers, Readers Reapers

    Library workshop for staff

    finders-keepers1

Would you like to KEEP appropriate readings in your Vision courses so students can easily FIND them? Would you like students to REAP the benefits of READing these materials rather than the first few pages from a Google search?

Why not come along to the library’s FINDERS KEEPERS, READERS REAPERS workshop?  This session for staff will cover how to get appropriate reading materials directly to students through their Vision courses.  It will cover linking to recommended reading as well as embedding other tools and resources to help students find appropriate wider reading.  The library’s scanning service  will also be described.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday 26th November 12.15-1.45 in the Anderson Room on the top floor of the Library. Tea and coffee provided. Bring your own lunch.

VISION courses for semesterisation – OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS

    26 June 2008

If you’re redesigning a VISION course for semesterisation, here’s a great opportunity - adding key reading materials (by adding links or scans).

Make your VISION courses more interactive, attractive and supportive.   Add an extra dimension to your course  – at little opportunity cost.  Spend a few minutes adding some links or ask your Subject Librarian to lend a hand and that’s it!   Your students get online course notes and reading materials  -  together on the same plate!  Have a look at the kinds of materials you can link to.

Not sure what to do next?  Contact libscan@hw.ac.uk for information on how to get a scanned document in VISION or M.L.Kennedy@hw.ac.uk for information on linking.
