UK Universities – Twitter accounts

28 July 2009

Liz Azyan, who is interested in how social media is being used in higher education institutions, has compiled a list of UK university Twitter accounts as of 28th July 2009.  There’s also a University Twitterleague where you can find UK universities according to the number of followers as of 28th July.  Liz has said that both lists are new, and that there might be universities that have been missed. If so, Liz can be contacted via her post.

Each month, in the Internet Resources Newsletter, I’ve been noting a few Twitter accounts of various kinds that may be of interest.  The most recent list is here (you’ll need to scroll down a wee bit).

Twitter and Heriot Watt University Library

23 March 2009

Some people think Twitter, the free microblogging service, is wonderful, and others think it’s a bit of a waste of time. The truth probably lies somewhere in between, and it all depends on how it’s used.

Educators are using Twitter, and libraries have also begun to use it in a variety of ways, usually as a further method of communication with their users.

If you want to tweet about Heriot Watt University Library, you can use the hashtag #hwul9

As an experiment, I’ve set up a feed for this tag at the bottom of the Comments, Complaints & Suggestions page, and I’ll be monitoring it in my Bloglines account.
