Here are ten things you may not know about the Library.
1. On an average weekday in term-time 1,660 people visit the Library.
2. In an average week, the Library staff answer over 500 enquiries.
3. The Library subscribes to over 6,000 electronic and print journals
4. There are 23 books in the Library per full time equivalent (FTE) student.
5. The Library expenditure as a percentage of total institutional expenditure in 2007 was 1.8%.
6. The Library’s budget for journals and newspapers in 2008/09 is £670,000
7. The Library’s budget for books and eBooks in 2008/09 is £71,500
8. Heriot-Watt has an Institutional Repository, called HWURPA (Heriot-Watt University Research and Publications Archive). At present HWURPA contains only Heriot-Watt theses but it will expand to include other types of output, such as working papers, articles and conference papers, as well as supplementary materials such as past examination papers.
9. The Edinburgh campus library at Riccarton operates an Ask a librarian IM/Chat Service where users can ask the Subject Librarians for help.
10. ScienceDirect, which is one of over 200 databases available to members of the University, contains more than nine million full-text articles.
