You can’t judge a book by its cover.

A search on the Library OPAC will now provide you with more information than ever before.

More than half of the books held in the Library will now have cover images displayed in their catalogue records, which will offer no guide to the quality of the book, but may assist you in locating it on the shelves. Potentially more useful is the inclusion of both tables of contents and summaries in the catalogue records for over a third of our book collection. These will give a much better indication of the scope of the book in question, and can be used to decide whether a book is going to be a useful read. It may also help you find out whether specific information is included in a book, where chapter headings will be a better indication than the title alone would be.

This catalogue enrichment content is being provided through a subscription to Syndetic Solutions, and follows a trial run of the product over the Summer. We are continuing to look at new ways to make the catalogue more user friendly and improve the content within it.
